SUBASIO MOUNTAIN AND THE PARK

Mount Subasio , with its characteristic whale shape, overlooks Assisi , separates the large Umbrian valley from the Topino valley. Mount Subasio has become a symbol of the environment protection in Umbria and the sacred land of Saint Francis . Mount Subasio has thus become a nature park, whit many tourists visiting sightseeing the Francescan sites. The park is ideal for tours on the foot, by mountain bike and horseback. The most important geomorphological feature is the presence of karsic phenomena, which characterize the plain area, with the formation of depressions called “Mortari” or “Fosse”, and of flat zones. Finally, the considerable flora and the abundant fauna make Mount Subasio as very pleasant place to visit.
